National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 3-7
“Work Zone Safety Is In Your Hands” National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 3-7, and the South Dakota Department of Transportation is teaming up with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and state transportation departments across the country to remind motorists to drive safely through work zones.


Phase 1 of 6th Street Construction to Begin
The 6th Street construction project from 20th Avenue to east of 34th Avenue is scheduled to begin Phase 1 (westbound lanes) on Monday, April 3, weather dependent. Phase 0 began on March 20.


Highway 50 Gayville to Yankton Construction To Begin
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work to reconstruct Highway 50 from Gayville to Archery Lane in Yankton will begin Monday, April 17.


Spring Load Limit Restriction Release #10
Effective at 3:30 p.m. MST, Mar. 21, 2017, Spring Load Limit Restrictions will be removed from the road segments shown in the table below.


Highway 212 Bridge Replacement Near Redfield
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work will begin to replace the bridge on Highway 212 just west of Redfield on Monday, March 27.


Bridge Reconstruction on I-90 Near Brandon to Begin
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the reconstruction of the Interstate 90 bridges just east of Brandon Exit 406 are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 20.


I-90 Exit 14 Public Meeting and Work on 27th Street
The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in cooperation with the City of Spearfish and Heavy Constructors, will hold an open house style public meeting for the Interstate 90 Exit 14 interchange reconstruction project at the City of Spearfish Commission Chambers located at 625 5th Street on Thursday, March 16, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Highway 50 / 4th Street Construction To Begin
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work to reconstruct Highway 50 (4th Street) in Yankton, will begin Monday, March 20.


6th Street Construction to Begin In Brookings
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the Highway 14 (6th Street) project in Brookings is scheduled to begin March 20 with Phases 0 and 1.


I-90 Exit 14 Closure For Bridge Demo Postponed Due to Wind
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the demolition of the old I-90 Exit 14 bridge at Spearfish scheduled to start this evening, Monday, March 6, will be delayed until Tuesday, March 7, or Wednesday, March 8, when the wind subsides and it is safe for work to continue.

190/Silver Street Construction Project Open House
The South Dakota Department of Transportation will hold a public open house to provide citizens an update on the I-190/Silver Street construction project in Rapid City on Thursday, March 9, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

REMINDER: I-90 Westbound Lanes Closing at Piedmont
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 from Exit 44 at Piedmont, going west, will be closed for about two miles beginning today, March 6.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in collaboration with the Sioux Falls Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the city of Brandon, will hold a public open house from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Mon. Jan. 23, 2017, at the Holiday Inn Express Convention Center, 1103 N Splitrock Boulevard, Sioux Falls, to inform area residents of the beginning of the study and begin receiving public input on the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the I-90 Exit 406 (SD11 / Splitrock Boulevard) Interchange.


I-90 Exit 14 Lane Closure and Opening the New Bridge
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says that eastbound I-90 will be reduced to one-lane between the off and on ramps at Exit 14 on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. This is being done so the contractor can transport concrete barriers onto the new bridge.

Interstate 90 Reopened Rapid City to Vivian Fully open to traffic
State officials have reopened I-90 in both directions from Rapid City to Vivian. I-90 is now completely open to traffic, but motorists are cautioned that winter driving conditions still exist.

State officials have reopened I-90 in both directions from the Wyoming border to Rapid City in western South Dakota. I-90 from Rapid City to Vivian (both directions) remains closed until further notice. I-90 was reopened in both directions from Vivian to Chamberlain earlier.

State officials have reopened Interstate 90 from Vivian to Chamberlain in central South Dakota. Motorists are cautioned that icy, snow-packed roads and strong winds are still creating difficult travel conditions along I-90, especially in western South Dakota.


Interstate 90 Closed From Wyoming Border to Vivian
State officials have closed Interstate 90, east and westbound, between the Wyoming border and Vivian effective immediately. Officials will be closing Interstate 90 from Vivian to Chamberlain at 7 p.m. CST. The temperature is expected to drop below freezing, and along with snow and strong winds, as travel will be treacherous during the overnight hours.
