The Original SD BBQ Championships Donates to SD State Fair Foundation
HURON, S.D. -- The Original SD BBQ Championships Committee made a $3,600 donation to the SD State Fair Foundation during December's SD State Fair Commission meeting.
"We are excited to have an opportunity to be giving money to the SD State Fair Foundation. Our sponsors have really stepped up to the plate and provided us the funds necessary to cover the purse and other expenses; allowing additional incomes to be funneled into the SD State Fair Foundation. We want to thank them for their continued support," commented Bush Fullerton, outgoing BBQ Committee Chairman.
2012 will mark the sixth year for the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned event that is held on the first weekend in June in conjunction with Wheel Jam, an event that hosts cars, motorcylces and semis. Events include a four meat competition in accordance with KCBS rules and regulations, People's Choice Backyard BBQ and F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge.
In 2011, 31 teams from seven states and one Canadian province came to compete for the title of Grand Champion and vie for $10,000 in prize money, which is underwritten by sponsorships and entry fees. The Grand Champion at this event receives an invitation to compete in the "World Series of BBQ", the American Royal held in Kansas City. The SD BBQ Championships Committee operates under the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau and is driven to create and provide a profitable event to bring unique visitors to the community with proceeds being given to the SD State Fair Foundation
