Flood Damage Closes Fisher Grove Campground
Flood Damage Closes Fisher Grove Campground, But Day-Use and Golf Course Remain Open
REDFIELD, S.D.– Flood damage has forced closure of the campground at Fisher Grove State Park near Redfield for the entire 2012 camping season.
The campground closure is necessary because the James River bridge that is the only access to the campground is closed to vehicle traffic.
The bridge has been affected by flooding each of the last three years, and the cumulative damage to it required closure to vehicles. That closure will be extended indefinitely as park officials explore options for the future, including relocating the campground to a location that doesn’t require costly bridge repair or replacement.
The bridge is still open to foot traffic, and the portion of the park south of the river, including the golf course, day-use area, picnic shelter and playground, remains open.
