Welcome home ceremony scheduled for Guard unit
RAPID CITY, S.D. - A welcome home ceremony will be held for 67 Soldiers of Company C, 1st Battalion, 189th Aviation Regiment, South Dakota Army National Guard, tomorrow May 19 at 4 p.m. (MT) at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center's Rushmore Room in Rapid City, after completing a yearlong deployment to Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation New Dawn.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard and Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch, the adjutant general of the SDNG, will be featured speakers at the ceremony.
Members of the 1-189th arrived to the United States on May 14 and spent about a week at Fort Hood, Texas, completing de-mobilization requirements before returning to South Dakota.
The Rapid City-based 1-189th deployed in May 2011 with a mission to provide aerial medical evacuation support to U.S. and coalition forces.
