Winners named in 2012 student healthcare video contest


PIERRE, S.D. – Twelve teams of high school students from across the state have been named winners in this year’s Health Care Video Contest. The yearly contest is sponsored by the South Dakota Departments of Health, Labor and Education to make students aware of the many career options available in health care.


Entries were judged on educational value, entertainment value, content, and originality. Cash prizes were awarded to winning teams: $700 for 1st, $600 for 2nd, $450 for 3rd, $300 for 4th, $250 for 5th, and $200 for 6th 


Twenty total videos were submitted in the Promotion of Healthcare Careers category. Winning teams were:

  • 1st - Lorissa Bellikka, Taite Rausch, Brandon Lunzman, Josh Hilgemann, Casey Barlow, and Hayley Gibson, Alex Conn, Sierra Smith – Hub Area Tech, Aberdeen
  • 2nd - Kenzie Trammell, Jonmichael Waggoner  CTE Academy, Sioux Falls.
  • 3rd - Taylor Herrick, Kendra Cersosimo, Paul Bernard – Mitchell High School.
  • 4th - Jared Schmidt, Evan Mastel, Cole Morgan – Mitchell High School.
  • 5th - Josh Wieger, Benjamin Morken, Josh Schmidt, Krista Huber – Mitchell High School.
  • 6th - Phillip Pap, Jon Burros – CTE Academy, Sioux Falls.


Thirty teams submitted videos in the Health Care Workforce Shortage category. Winning teams were:

  • 1st - Nick Sweeney, Carli Johnson, Hannah Tolley, and Elizabeth Staggs, Kenzie Baumberger – Colman-Egan High School
  • 2nd -Jeremy Eich, Phillip Pap – CTE Academy, Sioux Falls.
  • 3rd - Mataya Harrington, Taylor Youngbluth, Rachel Bigge, Adam Fink, Bailey Harrington, Julie Mingo , Haley Scholten , Tessa Carda ,Logan Ledeboer, Vicki Horst, Zach Kriz, Sarah Freier – Armour High School.
  • 4th - Josh Leland, Shelby Gunsch, Jace Edwards – Mitchell High School.
  • 5th - Jacob Addison, Ryder Sanftner, Chance Knutson, Ty Merchen– Kakoka High School.
  • 6th - Seth Pearson, Mylan Dennis, David Schmutterr – CTE Academy, Sioux Falls.
