Work Begins On U.S. Highway 85 North Of Belle Fourche
BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says a construction project is scheduled to begin today, June 18, on U.S. Highway 85 north of Belle Fourche.
The work will be done from mile marker 68.155 to mile marker 78.862 and will begin with crack-leveling of the joints, followed by application of the chip seal, flush seal, and striping.
Crack-leveling should take three weeks, followed by a week of cure time. The chip-seal application should begin July 16 and finish in a week.
The estimated date to complete all of the work is July 27, weather permitting.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and guided through the projects with the use of flaggers and a pilot car. A delay up to 15 minutes can be expected while traveling through the work area during daytime hours. Travelers may want to consider an alternate route.
Loose gravel will be present for a period of 36 to 48 hours after each day’s chip-seal application. Motorists should travel at 40 miles per hour during that time.
Hills Materials Company of Rapid City is the prime contractor on the $628,000.00 project.
