Governor Awards Grant to Beadle County For Worker Training

Governor Awards Grant to Beadle County For Worker Training

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that Beadle County has been awarded a $126,079 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist with needed workforce training in the Huron area.

Beadle County is partnering with Cornerstones Career Learning Center, Huron Community Campus and the Greater Huron Development Corporation to provide manufacturing employees with the necessary skills to advance in the workforce.

A skilled workforce is essential to community development,” Gov. Daugaard said. “With recent growth in South Dakota’s manufacturing sector, this is a valuable project for the Huron area and a great use of Community Development Block Grant funds.”

Manufacturers in the Huron area will provide training in blueprint reading, forklift operations, math for manufacturing, welding and power tool operations.

CDBG is a reimbursement program, and Beadle County will receive funds as workforce training is completed.

The CDBG program provides communities and counties with financial resources to address a wide range of unique development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, water systems, and sewer systems.

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it.
