USD Health Sciences Degree Offers New Transfer Options
for Students at Technical Institutes
MADISON, S.D. – Articulation agreements reached between South Dakota’s public universities and technical institutes have opened up new opportunities for students to transfer their credits seamlessly between two- and four-year degree programs. This week, the Board of Regents authorized two more agreements involving a popular health sciences degree at The University of South Dakota.
Students completing the associate of applied science degree in medical office professional at Mitchell Technical Institute and a similar degree in allied health at Southeast Technical Institute can now apply their credits toward the bachelor’s degree in health sciences offered at USD.
“These agreements accommodate the varying needs of our students, while recognizing the complementary nature of the programs,” said Jack Warner, executive director and CEO for the South Dakota Board of Regents. “Most students interested in this pathway choose to pursue a four-year degree after completing work at the technical school. But to further simplify the process, this agreement also allows a reverse transfer, where students take their first two years of study at USD and complete their technical degree after that.”
With the newest agreements approved, it brings the number of credit-transfer agreements system-wide to 259. Total number of agreements at each institution breaks down as follows:
Public Universities Technical Institutes
Black Hills State University 24 Lake Area Technical Institute 70
Dakota State University 55 Mitchell Technical Institute 24
Northern State University 39 Southeast Technical Institute 127
South Dakota State University 69 Western Dakota Technical Institute 38
University of South Dakota 72
