EDITORS/NEWS DIRECTORS: A statement from Gov. Dennis Daugaard about the crash of a C-130 National Guard plane that was helping fight the White Draw Fire in the Edgemont, S.D., area. Six airmen were aboard the aircraft, and there were four deaths.
"The loss of these brave National Guardsmen is a tragedy. The North Carolina National Guard came to help our state during a time of crisis, and these brave guardsmen put their lives on the line to fight a dangerous fire. Linda and I extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were lost, and on behalf of all South Dakotans I thank the North Carolina National Guard for their service to our state and our nation."
