Highway Patrol ‘Operation Safe’ Campaign Successful
PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Highway Patrol was out on Tuesday, July 3, in a high-visibility “Operation Safe” campaign to remind motorists to make safe and responsible driving decisions during their holiday travel.
Statewide, troopers issued 260 citations and 779 warnings to motorists for various traffic violations. Troopers responded to two injury crashes and nine non-injury crashes; they also assisted 49 motorists stranded on the highway.
“The Highway Patrol is committed to educating the public and keeping motorists safe,” says Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. “The results from our July 3rd campaign show that our efforts are working to prevent speeding, encourage seatbelt use, and reduce alcohol-related crashes.”
The Highway Patrol, the Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement agencies across South Dakota have made safe travel the focus of a summer-long campaign called “100 Days of Heat.” The campaign focuses on preventing drunk driving and speeding while encouraging seatbelt use. It includes enforcement, education, public service announcements and non-traditional marketing elements.
