Peter Furler to Play Free Concert at South Dakota State Fair
HURON, S.D. – The South Dakota State Fair announces Peter Furler, formerly of the Newsboys, will be performing at the Fair this year. He will appear at noon on Sunday, Sept. 2, on the Northwestern Energy Freedom Stage.
Furler is best known as the former front man of the Newsboys, a band with famous hits like “He Reigns” and “Something Beautiful” that he founded as a teenager in Australia. In 2009, he handed the group over to his band mates and took a step back from the music scene.
Over the next two years, Furler and his wife, Summer, traveled across the country watching the Newsboys live shows and just trying to live the simple life. “It was the best two years of our life so far,” said Furler.
After some time to himself and his wife, Furler returned to writing songs in the studio, recording background vocals and drumming.
Eventually, the opportunity came around for a solo album and after more time in the studio, “On Fire” was released in June 2011 as Peter Furler’s debut solo album. The song soared to No. 2 on the Christian Album Music Charts. “Reach” became the first single from the album and made it to the Billboard music charts. Other hits from his album include “Matter of Faith” and “I’m Alive”.
“We’re pleased to be able to bring Peter Furler to the State Fair and Northwestern Energy stage this year,” said Jerome Hertel, South Dakota State Fair Manager. “Fairgoers have been asking for a Christian concert, and we are finally able to deliver. Fairgoers can look forward to this show and many others on our free stages.”
The Northwestern Energy Freedom Stage is one of several entertainment stages at the South Dakota State Fair offering free concerts and events to fairgrounds guests with paid gate admissions.
The 2012 South Dakota State Fair will be Thursday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 3. Channel Seeds Preview night will be Wednesday, Aug. 29. The theme for the 2012 State Fair is “Taste the Fun!”
