Brown County Fatal Crash
What: Two-vehicle fatal crash
When: Friday, July 20, 2012, 9:54 p. m.
Where: SD Highway 37, mile marker 234, six miles south of Hecla, SD
Driver 1: Perry A. Peterson, 24, Hecla, SD, fatal
Passenger 1: Jayden Trinity Meier, 5, Britton, SD, serious non-life threatening injuries
Vehicle: Home-made go-cart
Driver 2: Robert Taylor, 38, Claremont, SD, no injuries
Passenger 1: James A. Horgeshimer, Muskogee, 49, minor injuries
Vehicle 2: 1995 Plymouth Neon
HECLA S.D. – A Hecla, S.D., man died in a crash between a go-cart and a passenger car on Friday, July 20 on S.D. Highway 37 about six miles south of Hecla.
Perry Peterson, 24, was driving a home-made go-cart southbound and made a U-turn in the roadway. Robert Taylor, 38, of Claremont, S.D., was southbound driving a 1995 Plymouth Neon. He was unable to avoid the turning go-cart.
Peterson, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was dead at the scene. A 5-year-old passenger on the go-cart received serious, non-life threatening injuries.
Taylor was uninjured. A passenger in the Plymouth, James A. Horgeshimer, 49, received minor injuries.
No further information is immediate available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Careflight, Hecla Ambulance, Aberdeen Ambulance and Hecla Fire and Rescue assisted.
