CANTON, S.D. – A Missouri man died in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 about two miles north of the Canton exit on Sunday, Aug. 5.
Devlin D. Reid, 25, of St. Louis, was one of six occupants in a 2005 Ford Excursion driven by Samuel Cody Murphy, 23, of Oakview, Mo. Preliminary investigation indicates a tire blew out on the vehicle, and Murphy lost control. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled.
Reed was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Passengers, Michael C. Hayes, 25, and Keith E. Huggins, 22, both of St. Louis, were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with injuries. The other three occupants remained in the vehicle.
All six occupants of the vehicle worked for a company in Platte City, Mo., and were traveling to Sioux Falls to work.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
