Fatal Crashes on Aug. 6:

 

A motorcycle driven by James Mills, age 48, from New Palestine, IN, was traveling west on U.S.14 near Pioneer Drive in Spearfish. Mills applied his brakes and lost control and the bike slid on the roadway. Mills suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Speed and alcohol are factors in the crash.


A motorcycle driven by a Minnesota man was traveling east on S.D. 44. The motorcyclist was traveling too fast to negotiate a curve in the road, lost control, and went off the north side of the road and struck a delineator post. The driver suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. He was not wearing a helmet. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

 

 

 

Injury Crashes on Aug. 6:

 

A motorcycle driven by Larry Burgess, age 63, from Norman, OK was traveling west on Pleasant Valley Road. Patsey Burgess, age 61, from Norman OK was traveling behind Burgess. Burgess stopped in the roadway and Mrs. Burgess collided with the rear of the motorcycle. Mrs. Burgess was taken to Sturgis Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both subjects were wearing helmets.

 

A motorcycle driven by Theodore Vore, age 69, from Belle Fourche, SD, and a motorcycle driven by Clifford Osborn, age 70, from Goodyear, AZ were both traveling east on U.S. 14A, near Deadwood. The motorcycles made contact with each other near the middle of the two lanes and crashed. Vore was transported to Rapid City Regional hospital via Life Flight with non-life threatening injuries. The crash is still under investigation.

 

A motorcycle driven by Gary Pekar, age 56, from Wharton, TX, was traveling south on Nemo Road near Cold Creek Lane. Pekar was traveling too fast entering a left curve. The motorcycle left the roadway and Pekar received minor injuries and was transported to Deadwood Regional Hospital.

 

A motorcycle driven by Justin Andreas, age 34, from Scottsbluff, NE, was traveling south on U.S. 385, south of Lead. Andreas veered onto the shoulder and caught loose gravel, and entered the grass ditch.  The driver received minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

                                                                                   

A motorcycle driven by John Reynolds, age 62, from Channahon, IL, was traveling west on S.D. 40. The motorcycle drifted off the south side of the road. The driver lost control and slid down a small embankment. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital. Speed and alcohol were not factors, and the driver was not wearing a helmet.      

                                                                       

A motorcycle driven by Mary Yates, age 67, from Sioux Falls, SD, was traveling west on Nemo Road. The driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road, lost control, went off the north side of the road, slid in some grass and struck a barbed wire fence. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital. Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors. The driver was wearing a helmet.    

                                                                       

A vehicle driven by Lesha Hall, age 18, with a passenger, Michael Hall, age 21, both from Madison, WI, was traveling east on I-90. The driver swerved to miss a pedestrian who was obstructing traffic. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it went into the south ditch, and rolled twice. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts and received minor injuries. The pedestrian was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody and charged accordingly.
