Fatal Crashes for Aug. 8:

 

A Honda UTV, driven by John Teigen, age 59, from Belle Fourche SD, traveling east on S.D. Highway 34 west of Belle Fourche, collided with a motorcycle, driven by Timothy Mueller, age 53, from Bloomfield NE traveling west. Mueller was transported to Spearfish Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries. The passenger on the motorcycle, Lori Miller, age 42, from Bloomfield NE, was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in the UTV, Delane Nixon, age 63, from Belle Fourche, also died from his injuries. Teigen received serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight to the Rapid City Regional Hospital. This crash is still under investigation and charges are pending against Teigen.

 

 

 

 

 

Injury Crashes for Aug. 8:

 

A motorcycle driven by Keith Allen, age 74, from Calgary, Alberta Canada, was traveling south on Junction Avenue near I-90 when it collided with a deer crossing the roadway.  Allen was taken to the Sturgis Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. Allen was not wearing a helmet.

 

A motorcycle driven by Jeffrey Aspery, age 49, from Delaware OH, traveling on S.D. Highway 34 west of Belle Fourche, slowed in traffic and was struck by a motorcycle driven by Harvey Riffle, age 64, from Fairfield Glade TN. Neither motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. Riffle received minor injuries and was transported to Spearfish Regional Hospital. Aspery was not injured.

 

A motorcycle driven by Charles Herman, age 36, from Edenton NC, traveling west on the Whitewood Service Road, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and went into the ditch. Herman was taken to Spearfish Regional Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet.

 

A motorcycle driven by Harley Gray, age 58, from Marion, OH, was traveling south on Base Line Road in Wasta. Gray was traveling too fast to negotiate a curve in the road, lost control of the motorcycle, slid sideways and struck a guardrail. After being thrown from the motorcycle, Gray struck a cement pillar. He was Life-Flighted to Rapid City Regional Hospital with life threatening injuries. Speed was a factor, alcohol was not.

                                                                                   

A motorcycle driven by John Payne, age 65, and his passenger, Robin Payne, age 53, both from Pensacola, FL, were traveling north on Sturgis Road. A vehicle driven by Jody Kirk, age 27, from Sturgis, SD, traveling west on Elk Creek Road, approached the intersection and rolled through the stop sign. Payne was unable to stop in time and struck Kirk. Mr. and Mrs. Payne were taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital with minor injuries. They were both wearing helmets. Speed and alcohol were not factors. Kirk was cited for failure to yield after stopping.  

                                                                       

A motorcycle driven by Robert Villani, age 66, from Hampshire IL, was traveling west on I-90. Another motorcycle driven by James Larson, age 39, and carrying passenger, Hameeda Turki, age 31, both from Brookfield, WI, was also traveling west on I-90. Mr. Villani was approached Exit 46 and decided to make a last minute exit. Larson was unable to avoid Villani and a crash occurred. All riders went down. Villani was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Larson and Ms. Turki received minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Speed and alcohol were not factors and no one was wearing a helmet.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Other Noteworthy Items:

 

A van driven by Debbie Taylor, age 47, from Casper WY, was stopped for a traffic violation. A search of the vehicle revealed synthetic marijuana, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Taylor and the passenger, Debbie Bradley, age 49, from Casper WY, were charged accordingly.
