Names Released in Lincoln County Fatal Crash
What: Two-vehicle fatal crash
When: Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, 8:50 a.m.
Where: Intersection US Highway 18 and 466th Ave, five miles east of Davis, SD
Driver 1: Dorthy Elizabeth Larson, 79, Centerville, SD, fatal
Vehicle 1: 2002 Chevrolet Malibu
Driver 2: Gregory Ray Benson, 26, Hurley, SD, no injuries
Vehicle 2: 2000 Peterbilt semi-tractor
DAVIS, S.D. – A Centerville, S.D., woman died in a two-vehicle collision on Thursday, Aug. 9, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and 466th Avenue about five miles east of Davis in Lincoln County.
Dorthy Elizabeth Larson, 79, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu north on 466th Avenue. She came to a stop at the intersection with Highway 18 and then began to cross the highway. Her vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2000 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling double tanker trailers.
Larson died at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt, Gregory Ray Benson, 26, of Hurley, S.D., was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and were the only occupants in their vehicles.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lennox Fire Rescue, Lennox Police Department and Lennox Ambulance assisted.
