I-29 Road Repair Work Near Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises motorists that crews began repair work on Interstate 29 from just north of the Tea interchange to just north of the 57th Street overpass on Sept. 5.

Motorists can expect various single-lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-29 through the interchange with I-229.

No work will be done during the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., but motorists may be restricted to one lane and unable to pass when lane markers are in-place.

The project will include repair of concrete joints and asphalt overlay work.

Motorists should expect delays though the construction area and stay alert for workers, equipment, lane closures, lane shifts and suddenly slowing traffic.

Motorists are also advised that there will be short periods of time when the ramps between I-29 and I-229 will be closed. They will be short closures and occur during night-time hours. Changeable message boards will notify travelers of the closures.

When southbound lanes have been repaired, the work will switch to northbound lanes and also onto I-229 for a short distance.

The completion date for the $2.2 million project is Oct. 19. Krueger Excavating and Paving, Inc. of Sioux Falls is the prime contractor.
