September 19, 2012
The South Dakota Board of Regents is deeply saddened by the sudden passing Wednesday (Sept. 19) of SDSM&T President Robert Wharton.
In this time of loss, we salute President Wharton's legacy of leadership and his extraordinary dedication to academic quality, research, and community service. Our thoughts and prayers are with his spouse, Dr. Carolyn Fassi, and his family, as well as all of his campus family, the School of Mines faculty, staff, and administrators.
Mines Provost Duane Hrncir has been designated as Acting President and has the Board's full confidence as he provides leadership for School of Mines and Technology during this difficult time.
