Gov. Daugaard Asks For Flags At Half-Staff Through Friday To Honor George McGovern
PIERRE,S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard asks that all flags in the state be immediately flown at half-staff in honor of former U.S. Sen. George McGovern and remain at half-staff through the day of his funeral, on Friday.
“I was saddened to learn of the death of Senator McGovern. George McGovern was a self-made man who served our nation, in war and in peace, with courage and conviction,” the Governor said. “He worked hard on behalf of South Dakota, and made history as the only South Dakotan to be nominated for President. Linda and I extend our sympathies to the McGovern family.”
McGovern, 90, died early Sunday. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Gov. Daugaard is requesting flags at half-staff daily from 8 a.m. until sunset through the day of McGovern’s funeral on Friday, Oct. 26. If illuminated, flags also may remain at half-staff during the overnight hours.
