Sioux Falls Group Claims $10,000 Powerball Prize

For Immediate Release: 11/29/2012

PIERRE, S.D.  – Although South Dakota did not produce a jackpot winner in last night’s record-shattering Powerball drawing, a group of 14 Sioux Falls city employees did win a $10,000 prize on a ticket purchased at Casey’s General Store on Benson Road in Sioux Falls.

Group member John Larsen claimed the ticket, which matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game's third prize in the Nov. 28, 2012 drawing. The winning numbers were 5, 16, 22, 23, and 29; the Powerball was 6. The odds of winning the $10,000 Powerball prize are 1:723,145.

South Dakota players set ticket-buying records, purchasing $1,329,503 million in Powerball tickets on Wednesday. The day’s sales eclipsed the previous one-day sales record of $774,800 for a Mega Millions drawing in 2012. Purchases reached a peak rate of $145,000 an hour in the last hour before the drawing.

Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Powerball jackpot currently sits at $40 million for the next drawing on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012.
