PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard will appoint Jim Putnam of Armour and Chuck Turbiville of Deadwood to the South Dakota Lottery Commission, effective Jan. 8.

Putnam, who is a businessman, has served 24 years in the state Legislature, both in the House of Representatives and the state Senate.

Turbiville, who is an economic development executive, is an eight-year member of the House.

Putnam and Turbiville’s legislative terms expire Jan. 8 when new lawmakers take the oath of office.

“Both Jim and Chuck have extensive legislative and business experience, and I have great respect for their abilities,” Gov. Daugaard said. “Those assets will prove invaluable as members of the Lottery Commission.”

Putnam and Turbiville will succeed Dick Werner of Huron and Jim Peterson of Revillo, both of whom have been elected to the Legislature.

State Lottery Commission appointments are subject to approval of the South Dakota Senate.
