Public Invited To Attend Comment Sessions For GFP Review

PIERRE, S.D. – All interested citizens are invited to attend a series of comment sessions next week on the management of deer, elk, antelope, and mountain lions in South Dakota.

The Wildlife Management Institute (WMI), an independent contractor selected by Gov. Dennis Daugaard, will conduct the meetings to gather insight and information for its review of the Department of Game, Fish and Parks’ (GFP) big-game management.

The review will identify strengths and weaknesses of current management systems and provide recommendations to improve those systems.

The public comment sessions will be held as follows:

Tuesday, May 14, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. CDT

Northern Plains Biostress Lab Building, Room 103; North Campus Drive, South Dakota State University, Brookings

Wednesday, May 15, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. CDT

Joe Foss Building, Matthews Training Center (first floor); 523 East Capitol Ave., Pierre

Thursday, May 16, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. MDT

City School Administration Center Community Room; 300 Sixth Street, Rapid City

“As we conduct our review of GFP’s management of big game in South Dakota, we’re seeking direct input from citizens,” said Steve Williams, WMI President.  “We look forward to hearing from sportsmen, landowners, and other interested individuals.”

Each comment session will consist of a short introduction by WMI staff and an overview of its review process.  WMI will facilitate the meeting and record comments for analysis.
