   Names of Lyman County Crash Victims Released
 
What: Two-vehicle fatal crash
When: Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, 3 p.m.
Where: 327th Ave., near 235th St., nine miles northwest of Reliance, SD
 
Driver 1: Tessa J. Crane, 18, Lower Brule, SD, serious non-life threatening injuries
Passenger 1: Caleb D. Mills, 22, Lower Brule, SD, minor injuries
Passenger 2: Jesse Hawk Wing, 35, Lower Brule, SD, fatal
Vehicle 1: 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass
 
Driver 2: Gabriella D. Laroche, 18, Lower Brule, SD, fatal
Passenger 1: Truman R. Armell, 33, Winnebago, NE, fatal
Passenger 2: Alvina J. Johnson, 32, Lower Brule, SD, fatal
Passenger 3: Deja Sazue, 10, Lower Brule, SD, fatal
Passenger 4:10 year old male, Lower Brule, SD, serious, non-life threatening injuries
Passenger 5: 3 year old male, Lower Brule, SD, serious, non-life threatening injuries
Vehicle 2: 2001 Toyota Corolla
 
RELIANCE, S.D. – Five people died in a two-vehicle crash on a rural gravel road nine miles northwest of Reliance on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Tessa J. Crane, 18, of Lower Brule, S.D., was driving a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass northbound with two passengers. Gabriella D. Laroche, 18, of Lower Brule, was driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla southbound with five passengers. The two vehicles collided head-on at a hill crest. Both vehicles were engulfed in flame after the impact.
 
 
Laroche died at the scene, as did three passengers in the Toyota, Truman R. Armell, 33, of Winnebago, Neb.; Alvina J. Johnson, 32, of Lower Brule, and Deja Sazue, 10, of Lower Brule. Two juvenile passengers were thrown from the vehicle and transported to a Chamberlain hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
 
Jessie Hawk Wing, 35, of Lower Brule, a passenger in the Oldsmobile died at the scene. Crane was taken to a Chamberlain hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. A second passenger, Caleb D. Mills, 22, of Lower Brule, was taken to the Chamberlain hospital with minor injuries.
 
No further details are immediately available.
 
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lyman County Sheriff’s Office, Lower Brule Police, Reliance Fire Department and Missouri Valley Ambulance assisted.
