Governor’s Awards Ceremony Scheduled

Governor’s Awards Ceremony Scheduled

 

PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Board of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) has announced that the 2016 Governor’s Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

 

The event will be held in the Capitol Rotunda inside the South Dakota State Capitol Building located at 500 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, S.D. starting at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at the visitor’s center.

 

Gov. Dennis Daugaard will recognize individuals and employers for their contributions to the rehabilitation and employment of South Dakotans with disabilities.

 

Daugaard will present awards to the following 2016 recipients:

 

  • Eric Bowers of Spearfish - Outstanding Citizen with a Disability
  • Aaron Ready of Rapid City - Outstanding Employee with a Disability
  • NAPA Auto Parts of Watertown - Outstanding Private Employer (Small Employer)
  • Nyberg’s Ace Hardware of Sioux Falls - Outstanding Private Employer (Large Employer)
  • Cindy Kirschman of Aberdeen - Outstanding Transition Services Award
  • Strider Sports International Inc. of Rapid City - Distinguished Service Award

 

The Governor’s Awards ceremony is co-sponsored by the Boards of Vocational Rehabilitation, Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Statewide Independent Living Council and the Department of Human Services.

 

If individuals need auxiliary aids or services in order to participate in the ceremony (e.g., sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices, materials in alternative format), please submit a request to BVR staff at 1-800-210-0143.  To ensure auxiliary aids or services are available, please make the request(s) at least 10 days in advance of the ceremony.

The purpose of the BVR is to serve as an advocate for all persons with disabilities seeking to reach their employment goals and aspirations through vocational rehabilitation services.
