PIEDMONT, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the westbound shoulder of Interstate 90 between Exit 40 and Exit 44 will be closed this week.
The shoulder closure is necessary for the construction of box culvert extensions along the interstate. This work is part of a project that will reconstruct the interstate between Exit 40 and Exit 44, including the reconstruction of the interchange at Exit 44 and the bridges over Elk Creek and Little Elk Creek.
The westbound shoulder closure is anticipated to remain in place until construction of the westbound lanes is completed.
Motorists are asked to be prepared for suddenly slowing traffic as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
Heavy Constructors, Inc. of Rapid City is the prime contractor on this $29 million project. The overall completion date for the project is June 14, 2019.
