Highway 50 / 4th Street Construction To Begin

YANKTON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work to reconstruct Highway 50 (4th Street) in Yankton, will begin Monday, March 20.

 

The work being completed includes removing and replacing the concrete surfacing and curb and gutter on Highway 50 from Burleigh Street to Archery Lane. The project also includes rehabilitation work on the Marne Creek bridge.

 

This section of Highway 50 will be done in three phases.

  • Phase 1: Reconstruction of the eastbound lanes while maintaining two-way traffic on the existing westbound lanes. Approximate time frame – March 20 to June 29.
  • Phase 2: Reconstruction of the westbound lanes while maintaining two-way traffic on the new eastbound lanes. Approximate time frame – June 29 to Oct. 20
  • Phase 3: Pouring the center turn lane with one lane of traffic being maintained on the outside lanes in each direction. Approximate time frame – Oct. 20 to Nov. 23

 

There will be a 10-foot width restriction in place. Over-width and oversize traffic will be detoured to Whiting Drive between Burleigh Street and 445th Avenue.

 

The interim completion date is Nov. 24 with pavement marking and other miscellaneous work to be completed in the Spring of 2018.

 

D & G Concrete from Sioux Falls is the prime contractor on the $4.9 million project.
