Harding County Fatal Crash


What:   Single Vehicle Crash
Where: U.S. Highway 85, mile marker 123, two miles south of Buffalo, S.D.

When:  9:25 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017


Driver: Male, 24, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passenger:  Male, 60, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Freightliner Conventional Columbia


BUFFALO, S.D. – One person died and another was injured Friday morning in a one-vehicle crash south of Buffalo.


The names of the two men are not being released pending notification of families. They were the only occupants in the vehicle.


A 2005 Freightliner, without trailer, was northbound on U.S. Highway 85 when the driver lost control. The vehicle went off the roadway, into the west ditch and rolled --- causing severe damage to the entire cab area of the semi-tractor .


The 60-year-old passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital in Bowman, N.D.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Harding County Sheriff’s Office and Harding County Ambulance


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
