Names Released in Harding County Fatal Crash


What:   Single Vehicle Crash
Where: U.S. Highway 85, mile marker 123, two miles south of Buffalo, S.D.

When:  9:25 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017


Driver: Skylor Nelson, 24, Atoka, OK, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passenger:  Roger Jensen, 60, Rapid City, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Freightliner Conventional Columbia


BUFFALO, S.D. – A Rapid City man has been identified the person who died Friday morning in a one-vehicle crash south of Buffalo.


Roger Jensen, 60, was a passenger in a 2005 Freightliner that was northbound on U.S. Highway 85. The driver lost control, the vehicle went off the roadway, into the west ditch and rolled, causing severe damage to the entire cab area of the semi-tractor .


Jensen, who was wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.


Skylor Nelson, 24, Atoka, OK, was driver. He was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Nelson was transported to a hospital in Bowman, N.D.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Harding County Sheriff’s Office and Harding County Ambulance


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
