MITCHELL, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation and the city of Mitchell are scheduled to begin the reconstruction of Burr Street from Havens Avenue to Interstate 90 in Mitchell on Monday, April 3.
The work being completed includes new concrete pavement, removal and reconstruction of two service roads adjacent to Burr Street, installing new water main, installing curb and gutter and constructing sidewalks.
There will be a 10-foot width restriction in place. Over-width and oversize traffic will need to find an alternate route while traffic is maintained in only two lanes.
This will be a multi-year construction project with an interim completion date of Nov. 17, 2017, for the northern portion of this project. Reconstruction of Burr Street from I-90 south past Spruce Street will occur in 2018.
A public information meeting will be held Thursday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Nordby Trades Center Lecture Hall on the Campus of MTI located at 1800 East Spruce Street in Mitchell.
T & R Contracting from Sioux Falls is the prime contractor on the $16 million project.
A website has been set up for this project at http://www.sddot.com/travelers/projects/burrstreet/default.aspx.
