Public Universities Add New Online Associate Degrees
SPEARFISH, S.D. – Consistent with South Dakota Board of Regents’ initiatives to grow associate degrees online, new two-year college degrees in construction technology, software development, and sociology will soon be available to students anywhere, any time.
The regents this week also approved a new associate degree in graphic and web design to be delivered at University Center-Sioux Falls. All the new degrees approved will offer stackable, seamless transfer options leading to completion of a bachelor’s degree in the chosen field, if graduates desire to continue their education.
South Dakota State University received approval to offer associate of science degrees in construction technology and in sociology. Construction technology incorporates content in scheduling, construction materials, project control, and building methods, leading to entry-level positions in construction and affiliated industries. The sociology degree at SDSU prepares graduates for entry-level positions in such fields as community health, child care, and law enforcement.
An A.S. degree in software development was authorized at Dakota State University, preparing graduates to develop, create, and modify general computer applications software or specialized software. Degree holders will be ready for careers in education, business and industry, management, social and human services, and in corporate and non-profit organizations. The degree will be available both online and at University Center-Sioux Falls.
Responding to demand in the Sioux Falls area for workers skilled in web design, mobile and e-commerce applications design, and user experience design, the University of South Dakota will offer its associate degree in graphic and web design at University Center-Sioux Falls. After full implementation, USD expects to graduate 10 students each year from the program.
