Gov. Daugaard To Appoint Joan Wink To Board Of Regents

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that he will appoint Dr. Joan Wink of Howes to the South Dakota Board of Regents.

“Joan has spent her life working in public schools and in higher education, and she is a recognized expert in languages and literacy,” Gov. Daugaard said. “She has seen the difference that education can make in people’s lives, and I know she will be an excellent regent.”

Wink earned her bachelor’s degree at Yankton College, two master’s degrees at the University of Arizona, and her Ph.D. in educational curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University. She is a professor emerita of California State University, Stanislaus and since her retirement has worked as an adjunct professor, including at Black Hills State University and South Dakota State University.

Wink’s appointment is effective April 3. She will succeed Dr. Kathryn Johnson of Hill City, who is retiring from the board after 12 years. Johnson served as the board’s president from 2011-13.
