Lawrence County Fatal Crash


What:   One-vehicle crash
Where: Gobbler Road, three miles west of Spearfish

When:  9:15 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017


Driver:  Male, 43, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2000 Conventional 5800 Dump Truck



SPEARFISH, S.D. – One person died Monday morning in a one-vehicle crash three miles west of Spearfish.


The name of the male driver is not being released pending notification of family. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.


A 2000 Conventional 5800 dump truck, carrying top soil, was northbound on Gobbler Road. The vehicle was traveling downhill when the driver failed to negotiate a right hand turn. The vehicle went off the roadway to the left, went over a berm, collided with several trees and eventually rolled.


The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the dump truck. He later died as a result of his injuries.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Spearfish Ambulance also was on scene.



The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
