Community Service Inmate Placed On Escape Status
PIERRE, S.D.- A minimum-security inmate from Pierre has been placed on escape status.
Inmate Stacie Cottier, age 33, left her community service jobsite without authorization in Pierre Wednesday night.
Cottier is serving an eight-year sentence out of Pennington County for aggravated assault.
She is Native American, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who sees Cottier should contact local law enforcement immediately.
Failing to return to custody following an assignment or temporary leave constitutes second-degree escape, a class 5 felony, and is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison. South Dakota Codified Law 22-11A-5 states that any person who conceals any prisoner knowing that the prisoner has escaped is guilty of a Class 5 felony.
There are nearly 500 minimum-security inmates assigned to community service projects across the state.
