Corson County Fatal Crash


What:       One Vehicle Crash

Where:    S.D. Highway 63, mile marker 253

                 Two miles north of McLaughlin, S.D.

When:     4:26 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017


Driver:  Male, 17, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passenger: Male, 16, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2002 Ford Explorer


McLAUGHLIN, S.D. – One person has died as a result of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning north of McLaughlin.


A second person was injured. Names of the two males are not being released pending notification of family members. They were the only people involved.


A 2002 Ford Explorer was southbound on Highway 62 when the vehicle went off the road, went into the ditch and eventually rolled.


The 16-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered life threatening injuries. He died later at a Bismarck, N.D. hospital. The driver, 17, was wearing a seatbelt. He sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to a Bismarck hospital.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Standing Rock BIA and Standing Rock Ambulance.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
