Names Released in Hamlin County Fatal Crash


What:     Two-vehicle crash

Where:   U.S. Highway 81, mile marker 143

               10 miles south of Watertown, S.D.

When:    4:01 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017


Driver No. 1:  Jaden Olson, 16, Watertown, S.D., Fatal

Vehicle: 2002 Toyota Corolla


Driver No. 2: Michael Forbush, 64, Watertown, S.D., Fatal

Vehicle: 2003 Chrysler Concorde


WATERTOWN, S.D.  – Names now have officially been released of the two Watertown residents who died early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash south of Watertown.


A 2002 Toyota Corolla was northbound on U.S. Highway 81 when it crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2003 Chrysler Concorde. The Concorde went into the west ditch and started on fire.


Jaden Olson was the 16-year-old female driver of the Corolla. Michael Forbush, 64, was the driver of the Concorde. Olson was not wearing a seatbelt and it is undetermined whether Forbush was wearing a seatbelt. Both were pronounced dead at scene. They were the only people involved in the crash.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, Codington County Sheriff’s Office, Hayti Fire Department, Castlewood Fire Department and Watertown Fire Department.
