Names Released in Grant County Fatal Crash

 

What:      Single Vehicle Crash

Where:    477th Avenue and 147th Street

                 One mile north of Milbank, S.D.

When:     4:46 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017

 

Driver:  Michael Reinhardt, 14, Milbank, S.D., Minor Injuries

Passengers:  Mackenzie Pies, 15, Milbank, S.D., Fatal

                       Casie Jones, 14, Milbank, S.D., Minor Injuries

                       Shyanne Jovanovic, 14, Milbank, S.D., Minor Injuries

                       Teanna Van Dykhorst, 17, Milbank, S.D., Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2002 Chevy Trailblazer

 

MILBANK, S.D. – A 15-year-old Milbank girl has been identified as the person who died in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon north of Milbank.

 

Four other people were injured. All were from Milbank.

 

A 2002 Chevy Trailblazer was northbound when the driver, Michael Reinhardt, 14, lost control on the gravel road. The vehicle went into the west ditch and rolled several times.

 

Mackenzie Pies, 15, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The male driver and two female passengers, all 14 years old, along with a 17-year-old female passenger, sustained minor injuries. Two female passengers, Casie Jones, 14, and Teanna Van Dykhorst, 17, were wearing seatbelts. The male driver, who is facing charges, and the other female, Shyanna Jovanoic, 14, were not.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Milbank Police Department, Milbank Fire Department and Grants-Roberts Ambulance.

 

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
