South Dakota Awarded Lifespan Respite Grant

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota has been awarded a Lifespan Respite grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Community Living (ACL).

The funding from the grant will assist South Dakota in planning and establishing a lifespan respite care system.

This system will include emergency respite services, training and recruiting respite workers and assisting caregivers with gaining access to needed services.

The South Dakota Department of Human Services’ Division of Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) will oversee the grant.

LTSS Division Director Yvette Thomas said, “We are very pleased with the opportunity to enhance support to family caregivers by improving coordination and streamlining access to respite services in South Dakota.”

Since 2009, ACL has awarded competitive Lifespan Respite grants to 37 states and the District of Columbia.

The grant project period will run from Sept. 1, 2017 – Aug. 31, 2020.
