Names Released in Lawrence County Vehicle-Pedestrian Fatal Crash


What:     Vehicle-Pedestrian Fatal Crash

Where:   Rushmore St. near Ryan St. intersection


When:    6:28 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, 2017


Driver: Michaela Tarrell, 22, Spearfish, S.D., no injuries

Vehicle: 2015 Kia Optima LX


Pedestrian: Linda Marie Firethunder, Spearfish, S.D., 64, fatal


SPEARFISH, S.D. – A Spearfish woman has been identified as the pedestrian who died from injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Spearfish.


A 2015 Kia Optima driven by 22-year old Michaela Tarrell was traveling west on Rushmore Street near the intersection with Ryan Street in Spearfish. The Kia struck Linda Maria Firethunder, 64, who was crossing Rushmore Street.  Linda Firethunder later died in an area hospital.


Charges are not pending against the driver.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Spearfish Police Department and Spearfish Ambulance.
