Name Released in Fall River County Fatal Crash


What:      One-Vehicle Crash

Where:    South Dakota Highway 71, mile marker 23

                 10 miles south of Hot Springs, S.D.

When:     11:25 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017


Driver:  Merlyn Haug, 73, Harris, MN, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2004 Ford F-150 Pickup


HOT SPRING, S.D. – A Harris, MN man has been identified as the person who died Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash south of Hot Springs.


Merlyn Haug, 73, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup on South Dakota Highway 71 when it left the roadway and rolled. Haug, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Fall River County Sheriff’s Office.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
