Names Released in Edmunds County Fatal Crash

Names Released in Edmunds County Fatal Crash

 

What:      Two-Vehicle Crash

Where:    U.S. Highway 12, mile marker 259

                 Five miles west of Ipswich

When:     11:56 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017

 

Driver No. 1:  Kenneth Schuh, 62, Bowdle, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2012 Ford F-250

 

Driver No. 2: Zachary Nelson, 24, Aberdeen, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2006 Ford Fusion

  

IPSWICH, S.D. – Names officially have been released of the two drivers who died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday west of Ipswich.

 

Kenneth Schuh, 62, Bowdle, was driving a 2012 Ford F-250 pickup eastbound on U.S. Highway 12 when it crossed the center line into the westbound lane and collided with a 2006 Ford Fusion. The Fusion eventually erupted into flames.

 

Zachary Nelson, 24, Aberdeen, was driving the Fusion and was pronounced dead at the scene. Schuh was extricated from his vehicle and eventually flown to a Sioux Falls hospital where he later died.

 

Use of seatbelts by both drivers is under investigation. They were the only two people involved.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Edmund County Sheriff’s Office, Ipswich Fire Department, Ipswich Ambulance and Aberdeen Ambulance.

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
