Name Released in Lawrence County Fatal Crash


What:      One-Vehicle Rollover

Where:    U.S. Highway 385, mile marker 117

                 Four miles south of Deadwood, S.D.

When:     Monday, Oct. 16, 2017


Driver:  Michael Manderfeld, 49, Lead, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup


DEADWOOD, S.D. – A Lead, S.D., man has been identified as the person who was killed Monday night in a one-vehicle rollover south of Deadwood.


A 2005 Dodge Ram pickup was southbound on U.S. Highway 385 when the driver, Michael Manderfeld, 49, lost control. The vehicle slid off the roadway and rolled several times. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


The crash happened sometime Monday night and the crash scene was discovered Tuesday morning.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Emergency Management, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, U.S. Forest Service and Lawrence County Coroner.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
