Pennington County Fatal Crash


What:      Two-Moped Crash

Where:    Lower Spring Creek Road

                15 miles south of Rapid City, S.D.

When:     12:07 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017


Driver No. 1:  Ronald Fischer, 51, Rapid City, S.D., No Injuries

Vehicle: 2013 Genuine Scooter Roughhouse


Driver No. 2: Carol McLoud, 60, Rapid City, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 1982 Yamaha MJ50JW


RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City woman has died from injuries sustained in an October 19 crash involving two mopeds south of Rapid City.


Carol McLoud, 60, was southbound on a 1982 Yamaha moped when she rear-ended another southbound moped which had slowed down in front of her. McLoud, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from her moped. She was airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital where she later died.


Ronald Fischer, 51, Rapid City, was the driver of the other moped. He was not injured and was not wearing a helmet. Charges are pending.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Life Flight and Rapid City Fire Department.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
