What:      One Vehicle Fatal Crash

Where:    296th Avenue

                Five miles east of Centerville, S.D.  

When:     5:15 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2017


Driver:  Dawson Knudson, 15, Centerville, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passengers: Male, 14, Minor Injuries

                     Male, 14, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 1987 Chevrolet Pickup


CENTERVILLE, S.D. – A 15-year-old male has died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 near Centerville.


Dawson Knudson of Centerville was driving a 1987 Chevrolet pickup westbound on 296th Avenue when he lost control on the gravel. The vehicle rolled and went into the ditch. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was airlifted from Viborg to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died on Thursday, Oct. 26.


Two male passengers, both 14, received minor injuries. Seatbelt use by the three occupants is under investigation.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene Monday were the Turner County Sheriff’s Office, Viborg Police Department, Viborg Fire and Ambulance and Centerville Fire and Ambulance.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
