Name Released in Hughes County Fatal Crash

 

What:    One-vehicle crash

Where:  Grey Goose Road and 202nd Street (Holly Road)

              Eight miles north of Pierre, S.D.

When:   11:12 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017

 

Driver: Joseph Swartz, 22, Pierre, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

 

PIERRE, S.D. – A Pierre man has been identified as the person who died late Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash north of Pierre.

 

Joseph Swartz, 22, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix eastbound on 202nd Street (also known as Holly Road) approaching the intersection with Grey Goose Road when he lost control. The vehicle went across the center line and then back onto the right side of the road before it rolled.

 

Swartz, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley County Sheriff’s Office and Pierre Police Department.
