What:    Semi-Truck/Trailer Rollover

Where:  Intersection of 447th Avenue/268th Street

              Five miles north of Marion, S.D.

When:   10:33 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2017


Driver: Ronald Heiter, 56, Freeman, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2012 International Prostar


MARION, S.D. – A Freeman man has been identified as the person who died Monday in a semi-truck and trailer crash five miles north of Marion, S.D.


Ronald Heiter, 56, was driving a 2012 International Prostar semi-truck and trailer northbound on 447th Avenue when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The truck and trailer tipped over and rolled before both started on fire.


Heiter, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown whether he was a wearing a seatbelt.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is the lead investigating agency. Other agencies on scene were Marion Ambulance, Marion and Parker Fire Department and Turner County Sheriff’s Office.
