Department of Transportation Seeks Public Input into SD44 / Platte-Winner Bridge Corridor Study

WINNER/PLATTE, S.D. - The South Dakota Department of Transportation will hold two public open houses on Dec. 12 and 13 to gather public input for help in developing the Highway 44 / Platte-Winner Bridge Corridor Study.


These open house public meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 12, Holiday Inn Express, 1360 E. Highway 44, Winner
  • Wednesday, Dec. 13, Platte Area Comm. Center, 310 S. Main St., Platte


The meetings will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the locations indicated. A brief, summarizing presentation will be made at approximately 5:45 p.m., followed by an open house discussion with SDDOT and consultant staff. The opportunity to present written comments will be provided. Written comments will be accepted until Jan. 3, 2018.


The Highway 44 / Platte-Winner Bridge Corridor Study is investigating a full range of transportation options and issues along the Highway 44 corridor between the junctions with Highway 47 east of Winner and Highway 50 west of Platte, with primary focus on the replacement options for the Platte-Winner Bridge over the Missouri River.


In addition to automobile needs, pedestrian, bicycle and freight needs are also being investigated by the study. The purpose of these meetings is to update the public on the status of the project and discuss the evaluation process and the recommendations for the project alternatives being carried forward into the environmental study. Comments on the environmental process for the project will also be taken at the public open house meetings.
