SD State Parks Celebrate Winter with Snowshoe Hikes





PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota State Parks are encouraging folks to get outside and remain active during the winter months.

Several snowshoe hikes are planned in the month of January at parks across the state.

January 6

  • Lake Herman State Park near Madison, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. CT. Info/Register: 605.256.5003
  • Richmond Lake Recreation Area near Aberdeen, 1:30 p.m. CT. Info: 605.626.3488

January 13

  • Game Lodge Snowshoe Hike in Custer State Park, 10 a.m. MT. Info/Register: 605.255.4515
  • George S. Mickelson Trail, 1 p.m. MT. Info/Register: 605.584.3896.

January 27

There is no cost to participate in any of the hikes, although a park entrance license is required. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy walking shoes or boots and dress in layers. Snow shoes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
