Names Released in Lawrence County Fatal Crash


What:     Two-vehicle crash

Where:   SD Highway 34, mile marker 16

               Six miles east of Belle Fourche, S.D.

When:    7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018


Driver No. 1:  Trystin Goff, 24, Rapid City, S.D., Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 1999 Ford F-350 Pickup


Driver No. 2: Jeremiah Chyba, 25, Belle Fourche, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Volkswagon Jetta


BELLE FOURCHE, S.D.  – A 25-year-old Belle Fourche man has been identified as the person who died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Belle Fourche.


A 1999 Ford F-350 pickup was westbound on South Dakota Highway 34. The driver tried to pass a pickup hauling a flatbed trailer and struck an eastbound 2007 Volkswagon Jetta.


Jeremiah Chyba, who was driving the Jetta, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.


Trystin Goff, 24, of Rapid City was driving the pickup. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Spearfish hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.   


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Spearfish Ambulance



The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
