Names Released in Pennington County Fatal Crash


What:      One-Vehicle Crash

Where:    U.S. Highway 79, mile marker 72

                Four miles south of Rapid City, S.D.

When:     8:14 a.m., Monday, Feb. 19, 2018


Driver: Hoksila Arapahoe, 18, Pine Ridge, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Passengers: Female, 13, Address unknown, No injuries

                      Lawrence Pumpkin Seed, 21, Address unknown, No injuries

                      Leveta Pumpkin Seed, Rapid City, 38, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Town and Country Chrysler


RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Pine Ridge man has been identified as the person who died Monday in a one-vehicle crash south of Rapid City.


A 2007 Chrysler Town and County van was northbound on South Dakota Highway 79 near mile marker 72 when the driver, Hoksila Arapahoe, 18, lost control of the vehicle, which went through a wooden fence. The deceased, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.


The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and Rapid City Fire Department.



The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
