Office of Highway Safety to Promote

Safe Driving at Summit League Fan Fest

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota’s Office of Highway Safety would like to remind good basketball fans that they need to be safe drivers as well.

For the second consecutive year, the agency will participate in the Summit League Basketball Championship Fan Fest Saturday and Sunday in the Sioux Falls Arena.

At the Highway Safety booth, there will be driving simulators where participants can learn more about the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. There also will be other information available regarding safe driving tips.

“The Fan Fest is a great place for us to remind drivers to be safe,” says Highway Safety Director Lee Axdahl. “We would rather have you learn about the dangers of drunk or distracted driving at our booth instead of trying to do either one while driving home from the game.”

Fan Fest, which is open to all ages, will be held from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. CDT both Saturday and Sunday at the Sioux Falls Arena. There is free admission.

Also part of the weekend event will be demonstrations by Highway Patrol police service dogs. The demonstrations will be held from 2-2:30 p.m. CDT each day on the stage.

Both the Office of Highway Safety and Highway Patrol are part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
